As the global electric vehicle (EV) industry continues to expand, the reliability, electrical safety, and durability of EV charging connectors have become increasingly important for manufacturers, testing laboratories, and certification organizations.
To meet the growing demand for reliable EV charging equipment testing, Sinuo recently completed a customized testing equipment project for a renowned international testing laboratory.
Based on the customer's specific testing requirements, sample characteristics, and electrical loading conditions, Sinuo designed and supplied two specialized testing machines:
IEC 62196-1 EV Charging Interface Breaking Capacity and Normal Operation Test Equipment – for charging connector insertion and withdrawal operations, mechanical locking durability, breaking capacity, and normal operation testing.
IEC 62196-1 Three-Phase Resistive and Inductive Power Load Cabinet – customized to provide the required electrical loading conditions for the customer's charging interface testing applications.
The project was successfully completed, delivered, and accepted by the customer. Both equipment solutions received positive feedback, demonstrating Sinuo's ability to deliver customized EV charging connector testing equipment that meets the practical requirements of professional testing laboratories.
The customer's requirements involved more than simply purchasing two standard testing machines.
For a professional international testing laboratory, testing equipment must be suitable for specific specimen configurations, electrical parameters, and test procedures.
The main requirements included:
1. Reliable EV charging connector insertion and withdrawal testing
The laboratory needed equipment capable of performing repeated plugging and unplugging operations while accurately controlling the test stroke, speed, cycle count, and mechanical locking operation.
2. Controlled electrical loading conditions
The charging interface tests required a dedicated three-phase load cabinet capable of providing adjustable resistive and inductive loads, with suitable voltage, current, and power factor ranges.
3. Compatibility with actual customer specimens
The equipment fixtures and electrical configurations needed to correspond to the customer's actual charging connector samples and testing requirements.
4. Stable operation for professional laboratory applications
The equipment needed to provide reliable control, clear parameter displays, and appropriate protection functions to support repeated laboratory testing.
Rather than offering a generic configuration, Sinuo evaluated the customer's requirements and developed two customized equipment solutions to address these specific testing needs.

The first machine is designed for testing the mechanical and electrical endurance of EV charging connectors and interfaces in accordance with relevant requirements of IEC 62196-1.
It simulates repeated insertion and withdrawal operations to evaluate whether charging interfaces can withstand the mechanical and electrical stresses encountered during normal use.
Main testing functions include:
Mechanical locking device durability testing.
Breaking capacity testing.
Normal operation and electrical endurance testing.
Repeated charging connector insertion and withdrawal.
Force monitoring during plugging and unplugging.
Wetted testing procedures using a pollution solution tank, where required.

One of the key strengths of this project was the customized engineering approach.
Sinuo did not simply select two standard products from an existing catalog. Instead, the equipment configurations were developed with consideration for the customer's actual specimens, testing parameters, and laboratory applications.
For EV charging connector testing equipment, customization can involve:
Charging connector dimensions and structural configurations.
Mechanical clamping and positioning fixtures.
Insertion and withdrawal stroke and speed.
Required testing force and cycle settings.
Electrical loading voltage and current.
Resistive and inductive load combinations.
Power factor adjustment range.
Special electrical connections and control requirements.
This approach helps ensure that the supplied equipment is aligned with the customer's actual testing procedures instead of requiring the laboratory to adapt its testing process to a standard machine configuration.
For testing laboratories with specialized requirements, this flexibility is particularly important.
As a manufacturer specializing in electrical safety and performance testing equipment, Sinuo provides customized testing solutions for EV charging connectors, charging cables, plugs, socket-outlets, and other electrical accessories.
